Ready for a photo blitz?! I was daydreaming up a way to fill the large wall space behind our couch and finally settled with a simple DIY based on the image above. Using the measurements of a standard large picture frame I headed to the hardware store to buy wood. I arrived with this photo from Pinterest which I sheepishly showed to the store clerk, and said, “I want to make this frame, based on these measurements. Help, please.” They were very kind to me as I was clearly a woman who had never placed an order at a hardware store. After having the pieces cut, the total was $8.
I had the fabric left over from a previous project. Once I nailed the frame together I pinned the fabric to the frame and then outlined the cross with pencil, finally using tape to make for an easy painting job. With bright red acrylic paint from the kid’s craft box I completed the red cross.
I hope I haven’t offended anybody by trying to emulate the gorgeous blue couch room, which is perfection. I mean that couch! I’m not an interior designer and our couch has been brutalized by little, bouncing boys. I’d love to replace it….but here’s to living on a budget!
I visited our local thrift shop for a few more decorative items and I found these gorgeous handmade crosses and little glasses for displaying air plants. Probably my favourite discovery was the tiny porcelain Greek house now perched next to my plant mister. If I were to add more, it would be a floor plant between the seating. What do you think?
I’ve been trying to keep with a similar colour palette through out the living room. The photo below is from a previous post of another corner in our living room.
What was your weekend project?
