Saturday was the kind of day we’ve been waiting for in Vancouver for a long time! The sun came out and so did our Native Shoes, the first sign that Spring is in the air! Native Shoes are essentially light weight slip ons with fasteners and super ventilation. They’re easy for kids to pull on because they can be tightened with a draw string which means getting out the door and into the sun is that much faster. I love my grown-up Apollo Mocs for cruising around town on my bike. We are a car-free family and so comfy and functional footwear is essential and my Native Shoes are perfectly paired with my speedy, little blue road bike. I chose an all black pair for versatility because they can be dressed up or down, in my case, mostly down (but the potential is there ; ). All Native Shoes are animal by-product, BPA and phthalate free, and do not contain hazardous materials such as formaldehyde. I highly, highly recommend Native Shoes for the whole family and how often can you say that about a brand?
We biked to the Vancouver Art Gallery for their Family Fuse Weekend where interactive art projects are available for the kids. This is probably the first time the boys were old enough to truly appreciate the activities and we had a blast doing a scavenger hunt and sculpting with clay. They love the old courthouse building that hosts VAG and as we traveled up and down the levels they pretended they were exploring a fancy mansion. After the gallery we explored Robson Square and all the paths and stair cases around the new(er) law courts.
Oh boy! We have a great giveaway going on at Elasticpantcity and it involves LEGO! Have you guys ever heard of the LEGO franchise called Snapology? Snapology offers hands-on, interactive activities for children using LEGO bricks, K’nex and technology.
One area that I’ve wanted to write more about on Elasticpantcity is our homeschooling journey. Now that we have two boys in school, the time dedicated to learning subjects has picked up exponentially. We’ve been challenged to focus on the 3 R’s: Reading, Writing and Arithmetic by our support teacher through HCOS. So old school, but so essential to early learning. Because Ben and I are creatively minded we would rather draw, build and play our days away and frankly our boys seem to be following suit.
I was going to let Elasticpantcity go. I started Her Vancouver and fell in love with my slick, new site focused on Vancouver women and other lifestyle topics. Her Vancouver feels grown-up while Elasticpantcity felt at that time of introspection like a simple mommy blog focused on a very specific time frame of my life. Elasticpantcity has always been unstructured with a lot of posts written on a whim based on my current mood or interests. I never followed a posting schedule for any length of time.
It’s been three years since I would officially call myself postpartum and yet I remember the emotional and physical rollercoaster ride like it was yesterday. There are so many changes all at once: adjusting to motherhood and sleep deprivation, and the physical changes that feel alien to our body. I remember my belly suddenly becoming a loose jelly roll and the discomfort it brought. My midwife told me my abs were separated by a hand-width! The one thing that brought relief, other than abdominal exercises and kegels, was using belly bands. Diapers.com offers a great selection of belly bands and that is why I’m so excited to offer Elasticpantcity readers a chance to win a $50 USD gift card to them (That’s like a million Canadian Dollars ; ).
A belly band offers extra support and comfort when taking care of a newborn, especially after a c-section or abdominal tearing. For myself it allowed me to focus less on sucking my stomach in for appearances, and more on strengthening the smaller core muscles; when I could find time to exercise! Fortunately most belly bands can be worn discreetly under clothing to maximize comfort and wear while being active or in recovery, or both. To enter the $50 USD giveaway to Diapers.com, fill out the comment form below and tell me why you’d love to win! A winner will be chosen by random Monday, February 21st so don’t forget to check back!
